Manufacturing & Supply Chain
Manufacturing and Supply Chain. Where products are brought to life. To market. And to the patients we serve.
The Global Supply Chain organisation is responsible for driving and delivering value from AstraZeneca’s product supply chains. Its focus is on leveraging maximum competitive advantage by enabling end-to-end supply chain integration and embedding Lean – among Global Operation’s key strategic drivers.
The Operations organisation is the connection between the development lab and the pharmacy shelf.
Operations is organised into:
Four regions: Supply Americas; Supply Europe, Middle East and Africa; Supply Asia Pacific and Japan; and Sweden Operations,
Three global functions: Global External Sourcing; Global Quality; and Global Supply Chain & Strategy
Three corporate functions: Procurement; Corporate IS and AZ Essentials and is supported by two enabling functions, Operations HR and Operations Finance.
Each year, this network supplies over 1 billion packs, with over 9,000 pack variants, and over 24 billion capsules and tablets to patients.
Within Global Supply Chain are:
New Product Directors (NPDs)
The NPDs’ remit is to establish robust, efficient supply chains for successful new product launches from Development through to Commercial. The NPDs also have additional responsibility for leadership of Operations’ involvement in external licensing activities.
Global Supply Directors (GSDs)
GSDs have overall accountability for optimising performance of current supply chains and continually improving efficiency and performance throughout the lifecycle of products. The GSDs are organised around portfolios of brands and supporting all of the technologies for those brands (oral solids, devices and parenterals). They formulate supply strategy, plan, review and set targets end-to-end for the supply chains in their individual portfolios, collaborating with site and functional representatives on Global Supply Teams on implementation.
Global Supply Planners (GSPs)
The key accountability of the GSP role is to balance supply and demand on assigned product end-to-end supply chains, assuring customer service and optimizing inventory and COGS within the given supply chain strategic framework; covering the majority of brands. This is a new role representing a key change to the Global Supply Chain and Strategy organisation; with significant impact on the management of supply chains across Global Operations.
Decision Support Managers (DSMs)
The DSMs support the Global Supply Team to drive E2E Supply Chain Performance in a standardised way, by providing Supply Chain analytical information, building on extraction of data from available systems, providing supply chain life cycle management expertise, sharing and applying best practice and collaborating within the AZ network. They also work to develop, improve and standardise Global Supply Chain processes.
Finance Directors (FDs)
GSC Finance Directors work with a variety of customers within the GSC organisation particularly the Global Supply Directors, to provide strategic input with quality analysis, evaluation and commercial support. They support the key brands strategic supply chains and technology stream decision making to maximise value to AstraZeneca, whilst ensuring an appropriate level of risk management. In addition the GSC Finance Directors engage broadly within AZ and with third parties in the negotiation of contracts and in shaping supply chain and collaboration agreements.
