Chemistry Placement Program

Students who are strongly motivated towards a career in organic chemistry research are fundamental to pharmaceutical R&D. At AstraZeneca, we've been long-time advocates of industrial placements and work experience that provide training relevant to the industry. We take it as our responsibility to help promising organic chemistry undergraduates mature into future researchers.

Sandwich Placements in Synthetic Organic Chemistry

Synthetic Chemistry placements will provide you with the opportunity to learn about organic synthesis, purification, reaction monitoring and automation techniques; helping you to develop a range of transferable skills as well as promoting and extending your proficiency as a chemist. Opportunities to present your work to other chemists will also enhance your communication skills.

AstraZeneca will offer up to 14 sandwich student placements for students in their 3rd or 4th year of study.

Candidates will be identified for interview at AstraZeneca during 6-8th November, under the Sandwich Placements in Synthetic Organic Chemistry recruitment process.

Applications/Eligibility

An online application process will run from 3rd September to 21st October 2012 at http://jobs.astrazeneca.com/

Undergraduate applicants should be studying for MChem / MSci or equivalent, have completed a first year and be starting a second year of study, and be performing at a high level (equivalent to achieving a 1st or 2.1 class degree).

Students at UK Universities who are eligible to apply for a Sandwich Placement in September/October

• Students commencing a 2nd year of study in September looking for a Sandwich placement in the following school year. 
• Students at Scottish Universities commencing a 3rd year of study in September looking for a Sandwich placement in the following school year.
